Letter from the President and CEO March 2025

Dear Reader,

In 1954, the authors of the founding charter of the Institute wrote the following:

Vitally affecting man's health are his emotions, his inner strains, his fears, his tensions, and also his faith and his self-esteem. The physical, psychological, and spiritual elements are so closely related as to often be indistinguishable—and certainly of vital concern for the total well-being of the patient. Doctors and ministers, working with the same people, usually carry on their services independently of each other.

What needs to be provided is not only the most effective physical care but also a source of strength and certainty inside man himself—a combination of skills from doctors and ministers that can bring health and stability to the total personality. [We aim] to determine the possibilities of therapeutic service of greatest value for the full and rapid recovery of patients and to provide for the spiritual opportunities presented in the Medical Center.

How amazing that the leaders of that era had enough vision and conviction to lay the groundwork for the establishment of an institution that would carry on into the next century! Indeed, seven decades later, we are still working alongside our partners to carry their vision forward, and we are so proud to remain at the cutting edge of this important work.

Please join us for our 70th Anniversary Celebration, when we will be able to honor our history and look towards the future. We will enjoy good food, music, and inspiring remarks by NYT best-selling author of The Spiritual Child and The Awakened Brain, Dr. Lisa Miller. Importantly, we will also honor two of our most steadfast supporters - The Henderson-Wessendorff Foundation and Novo Nordisk Inc., which have been essential partners in advancing our mission.

In the meantime, you may consider: When do you feel the most alignment between body, mind, and spirit? How might the Institute support your journey towards wholeness?

Warmly,
Stuart
