Exploring the connections between spirituality and health.

Children's Spirituality

A Center for Children’s Spirituality

Overview:

In 2018 the Institute for Spirituality and Health was awarded a generous grant by the John M. O’Quinn Foundation to be used for a needs assessment focused on the area of children’s spirituality. Here at ISH we often get asked if we have any programs for children and unfortunately we only have one regular program, our DeBakey High-School Project, in this area. Over time it has become increasingly clear that we need to find ways to effectively engage youth to help them explore the deep connections between spirituality and health. Our community is asking for it.

We want to be intentional about this process, however, and that’s where we need your help. In February and March, 2019, we will be conducting a series of activities to help us understand how we can best meet the needs of children in Greater Houston and beyond.

Roundtables:

We are conducting three roundtable discussions, scheduled for February 27th and 28th, that will inform our approach. These roundtables will bring together, respectively, professionals who work with children (teachers, mental health professionals, etc.), faith leaders, and parents. During these 60-minute conversations, we will engage in facilitated dialogue and guided activities that will help participants think creatively about how ISH can foster meaningful programs and services for youth in our region and beyond.

1:1 Interviews:

To compliment the roundtable discussions, we aim to complete a minimum of ten 1:1 interviews with community members who have a vested interest in this area. These 60-minute open-ended interviews can take place at ISH’s offices or at a location of your choosing, and participants will be compensated for their time with a $20 Amazon gift card. Our schedule is flexible.

If you are interested in participating in an interview, please contact Stuart Nelson - snelson@ish-tmc.org or 713.797.0600 x 110.

Survey:

If you’d like to contribute to the project, but can’t make any of our roundtables or 1:1 interviews, please fill out THIS SURVEY (coming shortly).
