Leah Adams Pruitt
Vice President of Engagement
Leah Adams Pruitt has a heart for service and maintains a passion for community well-being. She joined the Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center in 2019. The second woman to be named as an executive of the Institute in its 70-year history, Leah serves as the vice president of engagement for the Institute. She has more than 25 years of project management, communications, global management consulting, and non-profit leadership experience.
In her current role, Leah is responsible for planning and implementing internal and external strategic communications initiatives and establishing organizational partnerships to advance awareness of the Institute’s mission relative to its four centers of excellence. She has been instrumental in launching the Institute’s first formal strategic public relations and communications program, increasing awareness of the Institute, and implementing best practices.
Leah works closely with media outlets, Institute staff, Board of Trustees, and supporters; educational institutions; non-profit organizations; faith communities; first responders; and the general public. She routinely serves as an expert source for local, regional, and national media outlets on behalf of the Institute.
Leah enjoys sharing her expertise in trauma-informed care to enhance the Institute’s programs by facilitating bereavement support programs, mind-body workshops, and retreats. In July and August 2025, Leah traveled from Houston and positioned herself “on the ground” in the Texas Hill Country to support those adversely affected by the July 4th Guadalupe River flood. She is instrumental in delivering community-based psychosocial support, including direct care sessions and workshops across communities.
Leah frequently speaks on bereavement and mind-body practices for resilience, facilitating continuing education workshops and trauma-informed support groups. Leah also teaches resilience and restorative practices to community-based support groups such as Yes to Youth, The Women’s Home, Camp SHiEld After Military Service, and Bo’s Place. She also teaches mindfulness and meditation practices for medical resident students and other healthcare professionals.
Leah has been recognized by NPR and Spirituality & Health Magazine for uniting a variety of healing modalities and educational opportunities in a spiritual setting. She has curated a collection of meditations on digital display at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston and guides tours with medical professionals, students, and small groups to explore the theme of resilience. In March 2025, Leah was honored by Houston Woman Magazine as one of Houston’s 50 Women of Influence of 2024.
In 2018, Leah earned a certification in Project Management (PMP). She is a member of the Houston Chapter of the Project Management Institute.

She later served as a member of the Bo’s Place board of directors for several years. For Chester Street Foundation, she currently serves on its board of directors. For Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston, she currently serves as a “big sister.”
Leah earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Houston with a minor in European Studies and a focus on Global Business.
