"Sounds of Compassion" offers an immersive sonic journey where small shifts in listening and presence open pathways to deeper connection and healing. Guided by Farida Meguid’s alchemy bowls and Michael Sgarlata’s live instrumentation, participants are invited to pause, soften, and experience how vibration and melody can nurture compassion from within. In tuning ourselves to balance and calm, we plant seeds of change—simple acts of self-care that ripple outward into our relationships, communities, and the wider world.

The Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center has been fostering whole-person care since 1955. Through programs, research, and community partnerships, the Institute explores the connections between spirituality and well-being, creating spaces where healing, meaning, and compassion can flourish.

Collaborators

Farida Meguid

Farida brings over two decades of experience in yoga, dance, and healing arts to her sound bowl practice. A longtime teacher and movement artist, she discovered the power of Alchemy Sound Baths in 2017 and has since become certified in sound healing. Farida’s sessions use the vibrations of the bowls to restore balance, regulate the nervous system, and create a profound sense of calm. Her classes invite participants to feel grounded, connected, and spacious in both body and mind.

Michael Sgarlata

Michael is a live musician and sound facilitator with over a decade of experience creating music that supports exploration, connection, and softening. His work bridges artistry and intention, using sound as a tool for well-being and transformation in both individual and group settings. Michael attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. He brings a strong musical foundation to his work. His soundscapes feature guitar, flutes, harmonica, soprano saxophone, and voice, woven together to create immersive, intentional experiences. With each offering, he crafts sound journeys that honor the unique needs of his clients and their spaces, opening pathways for transformation through music.
